As you walk through the alleys of Patong, you see a massage shop sign every ten steps. I stopped in front of Karahill Massage because the interior was clearly visible through the glass door. When choosing a massage place in Phuket, I always go for somewhere I can see inside. With shops that have everything covered by curtains, you can't tell the bed condition once inside, and one-third of them are always humid. Here, just standing at the door, I could already see the row of foot massage sofas, marble counter, and ceiling chandelier.

That big 10.00–24.00 posted on the door was the deciding factor. In Patong, if you want a massage past 11 p.m., your options shrink considerably, but a place open until midnight means you can have dinner, grab a drink, and still come by. I went there in the late afternoon after visiting the Karon area.

Checked the Price List First — Thai Massage 60 Minutes 400 Baht

The menu is displayed on a stand outside the entrance that looks like a music stand. I took a photo before going in. The most common complaint at Patong massage shops is "the prices were different inside," so having the menu outside means you don't worry about that.

For prices on a major street near Patong Beach, it's not particularly cheap or overpriced. In alleys, you can find local shops with Thai massage for 300 baht for 60 minutes, but those often have lukewarm air conditioning or beds packed closely together. The 400 baht here includes the value of the facilities. A separate notice on the glass mentions that adding 120 baht gets you a cleansing + collagen mask pack. I got a 60-minute foot massage with nothing added and paid just 400 baht. Cards work for payment and there's an Alipay sign, but cash is the smoothest option.

A Dog Was Lying Right Inside the Door

When you open the door, to the left are about six cream-colored foot massage sofas in a row, and a marble counter faces you inside. The ceiling opens up two stories high with a long glass bead chandelier hanging down. And on the floor in front of the counter, a black Shiba Inu was lying belly-down, looking at me. It didn't bark or get up. Even when customers came in, it stayed in the same position.

Each sofa has a green leaf-patterned cushion, and the black stool for resting your feet has a towel folded into a bear shape. That's a detail that takes care. People with dog allergies or who are uncomfortable with animals should know this ahead of time. On the other hand, if you're someone like me who enjoys shops with dogs, you'll probably really like the vibe here.

The Waiting Area and Minor Rules

In front of the right wall is a waiting area with three white plastic chairs. On the wall is a large metal clock, and below it, in cursive script: this is our happy place. A promotional video for the shop plays silently on the TV.

Two notices stand out. One says "PLEASE do not make much noise" in English, Chinese (请勿大声喧哗), and Thai as well. There have been several times a massage was ruined by someone talking on the phone in the next seat, but places that boldly post this tend to actually be quiet. During the hour I was there, the hall was genuinely quiet. The other is information that you get a 10% discount if you leave a Google review. Next to the wall is a card with WiFi ID and password.

The location is roughly on the map below according to GPS. Being in central Patong, it's within walking distance of nearby hotels, and the street is well-lit at night. Unlike Bangkok where you turn into alleys several times off a main street, here you just push the door open directly from the street.

Second Floor Thai Massage Area and Individual Treatment Rooms

You get foot massages in the ground floor hall, but Thai massage is upstairs. Artificial potted plants hang from ropes on the landing ceiling. The stairs are narrow and a bit steep, so you have to be careful going up and down in slippers.

Upstairs, you'll find low wooden beds each separated by curtains. A purple diamond-patterned mat covers the floor, and each bed has a white plastic basket for clothes and belongings you're changing out of. Towels are rolled up like donuts. Wood blinds on the windows make it dim even during the day.

It's not completely private. Being only curtain dividers, you can hear your neighbor's breathing or joints cracking. Considering this, it's actually convenient for couples to get massaged side by side. If you want a private room, there's a treatment room in the back. On the wooden wall, TREATMENT ROOM is etched in small gold letters, and when you close the door, the sound drops significantly.

The room is for facials and scrubs. There's one bed with a gray towel covering, a steamer and magnifying lamp, and a three-tier cart with towels and cosmetics organized. On the wall is a brightly painted female face, and the ceiling also has glass bead lighting. One wall-mounted air conditioner for cooling. The small room had sufficient air conditioning.

After Getting It — What Was Good and What Was Missing

The 60-minute foot massage starts with foot washing. Your feet soak in lukewarm water while they scrub up to the calves, then it gets going in earnest. The pressure was a bit firmer than medium. I flinched once when they pressed my foot arch with a wooden stick, but as soon as I said it hurt, they eased up. The part where they pressed up the calves with their elbows felt the best. My legs, tired from walking around all day, loosened right there.

Two things were disappointing. The foot massage hall is an open space, so outside noise comes straight in when the door opens and closes. The notice asking for quiet becomes meaningless when the noise comes from the street, not customers. If you want complete immersion, it's better to choose a massage on the second floor or in a private room. And toward the end of the massage, the masseuse naturally brings up the topic of a tip. It's common in Patong and wasn't forced. I gave 100 baht based on 60 minutes. 100 baht is appropriate, and if you had an exceptionally good experience, up to 200 baht is how people here think about it.

A few things first-timers often miss:

• You need to mention the 10% Google review discount before payment. Bringing it up after checkout is too late.
• Rush hour is between sunset and 9 p.m. Going then means you'll have to wait. Daytime or after 10 p.m. are more relaxed.
• For foot massage, it's comfortable to change into short shorts. Since they work up above the calves, jeans require rolling up and are inconvenient.
• Cannabis Oil (+500 Baht) is a common option sold in Thailand, but if your return date is coming up soon, you don't need to choose it.
• Prices and operating hours are as of when the photo was taken. They may be adjusted during peak season, so it's best to check the menu board at the door before entering.

When choosing a massage shop in Patong, it really comes down to bed condition, noise level, and whether you can see the prices beforehand. Karahill passed all three. Next time I go to Patong, I'm thinking of trying a 90-minute Thai massage on the second floor. I'm a bit curious whether that dog in front of the counter will be lying in the same spot.
